Модули серии SCALANCE X-300 позволяют создавать коммутируемые сети с высокой скоростью обмена данными, высокой надежностью и широкими диагностическими возможностями. Эти сети могут охватывать как полевой, так и на верхние уровни управления предприятием. Все модули имеют степень защиты IP30 и ориентированы на установку в шкафы управления.
В большинстве случаев коммутаторы данной серии находят применение в системах подключения производственных сетей к корпоративным сетям предприятия.

Коммутаторы Industrial Ethernet серии SCALANCE X-300 выпускаются в прочных металлических корпусах формата модулей S7-300, предназначенных для монтажа на стандартные профильные шины DIN или на профильные шины S7-300, а также на плоские поверхности с любой пространственной ориентацией корпуса. При необходимости они могут монтироваться на одной профильной шине с модулями программируемого контроллера S7-300.

Сетевые топологии и конфигурации
Коммутаторы Industrial Ethernet серии SCALANCE X-300 имеют степень защиты IP30 и устанавливаются в шкафы управления с подключаемым к сети оборудованием. Они позволяют создавать линейные, звездообразные и кольцевые топологии сети с электрическими и оптическими каналами связи.

При появлении отказов в сети коммутатор SCALANCE X-300 способен посылать сообщение об ошибке (traps) в систему управления сетью или отправлять сообщение по каналам электронной почты по заранее определенным адресам.
Дистанционный мониторинг (RMON): 
Коммутаторы SCALANCE X-300 способны накапливать статистическую информацию в соответствии с требованиями RMON групп 1 ... 4. Это позволяет, например, накапливать статистику по отказам для каждого порта. Данная информация может считываться системами Web управления и передаваться в инструментальные средства обработки статистической информации.
